Microsoft Enterprise Desktop Virtualization

Microsoft Enterprise Desktop Virtualization, a core component of the Microsoft Desktop Optimization Pack (MDOP) for Software Assurance, enables deployment and management of Microsoft Windows Virtual PC desktops to enable key enterprise scenarios.
Incompatibility of applications with newer versions of Microsoft Windows can delay enterprise operating system (OS) upgrades. Testing and migrating applications can be time-consuming, and meanwhile users are unable to take advantage of the new capabilities and enhancements offered by the new OS.
By delivering applications in a Windows Virtual PC that runs a previous version of Windows XP, MED-V removes the barriers to OS upgrades and allows administrators to complete testing and to deal with incompatible applications after the upgrade.
From the user’s perspective, these applications are accessible from the standard desktop Start menu and appear side-by-side with native applications—so there is minimal change to the user experience.
MED-V helps enterprises upgrade to the latest version of Windows when some applications are not yet functional or supported.  MED-V enables customers to migrate to Windows 7 while still leveraging existing legacy Windows XP line of business applications.

3GB Switch in Windows boot.ini

The /3GB or 3GB switch in the boot.ini file lets you tune the use of memory and memory address space in your computer. The /3GB switch specifies the amount of memory for user-mode virtual address space. It is used to allocate more memory to applications and less memory to the operating system.
The /3GB switch increases the size of the user process address space from 2 GB to 3 GB.
This can improve performance of servers that run virtual-memory-intensive applications. That is for example database servers. A larger address space can improve a database server performance.

Set the virtual memory paging file size (Windows 7 and Windows Vista)

Virtual memory allows the system to use hard disk space to store information normally stored in RAM. Windows 7 and Windows Vista manages virtual memory by using a paging file. You specify the minimum and maximum size of this file. If the size is different from the default in Windows Vista, applications may return errors. However, some applications may require a non-default size for the paging file. Change the size only if other applications aren't adversely affected.
To set the paging file to the default size:
Note: You must be logged on as an administrator to change the size of the paging file.

Logon Script through GPO in Windows Server 2008

There are two ways to assign Logon scripts. The first is done on the Profile tab of the user properties dialog in the Active Directory Users and Computers (ADUC). The second is done via Group Policy Objects (GPO). Here we are using the second method.

When using GPOs you can assign MORE than one logon script per user, and you can configure which script runs first, you can also assign LOGOFF scripts for users, and even STARTUP and SHUTDOWN scripts for the computer itself.

Create the logon script and give it the appropriate name (for example: logon.bat, logon.cmd, logon.vbs, etc.) The script can use ANY name, just make sure you know what that name is, and give it the right file extension type.
